SARAH BLACKLAW
PRINCIPAL TEACHER/OWNER
Sarah Blacklaw trained at June Roy School of Dance, Elgin from the age of six after previously training at the Classical Dance Centre, Lossiemouth.
Whilst training at June Roy she excelled in Ballet, Tap, Freestyle Disco, Highland, National and Irish dance examinations. During this time she danced in many local shows, charity events, highland games and festivals such as Belladrum Music Festival.
When age sixteen she continued her love of dance and successfully auditioned for a renowned ballet school in Scotland. During her studies here she gained RAD examinations and took classes in Contemporary, Jazz, Ballet, Singing and Drama.
Whilst training she had the opportunity to tour Scotland with the Ballet West Company in The Nutcracker, Swan Lake and Romeo and Juliet. She has also performed at Disneyland Paris, SECC Glasgow and the Royal Albert Hall in London.
Whilst at Ballet West she gained her BA (HONS) in Dance.
Following her dance training she continued studies in childcare and primary teaching to help her have a further in-depth understanding of teaching children. When returning home Sarah wanted to share her passion for dance and opened Blacklaw Dance Company.
JESSICA NICOL
TEACHER
Jessica trained with Team Love Cheer from a young age competing all over Europe in Pom Dance, Lyrical and Jazz. Jessica was also a junior coach at Team Love Cheer studying cheer and dance coaching qualifications. Alongside this she took classes in freestyle and ballet at June Roy School of Dance. Jessica’s competitive highlights include dancing at the European Cheer and Dance Championships as part of Team Scotland in Pom Dance and Lyrical in 2018 and winning a place at the IASF World Dance Championships as part of the TLC Heartbreakers Lyrical Team. At 17 Jessica attended Dance Inc Studio Centre for full time dance college. She trained professionally in multiple styles including Ballet, Jazz, Hip-hop and choreography skills. Jessica got the chance to train in Los Angeles and perform in showcases and performances in venues such as the Theatre royal in Glasgow. During this she gained her HNC in Professional Dance Performance. Since moving home from college she has danced at local events under TruUnity Dance Company and taught for Blacklaw Dance Company, introducing the new styles Pom Dance and Lyrical and also assisting in the choreography and production of “Dance Around the World” Our 2024 Summer Show.
